I Love Skopje Green

About the project

Project: I love Skopje green

The City of Skopje, through the sector of Education, is supporting the implementation of the project I love Skopje green.

Project duration: June 2022 – December 2022

The project is within the framework of the CRPM Sustainable Development Program, sub-program for climate change and waste management. Within the framework of the project, youth-eco-activism was promoted, and citizens’ engagement in recognizing, reporting and clean-ups is encouraged, focusing on proper bio-waste management (composting) in the high-schools.

The goals of the project are to reach out to citizens through social networks to report existing or new illegal landfills, clean them up through joint actions in which the local community will actively participate, increase awareness and the importance of proper waste management and reuse through an educational/promotional campaign, as well as increase composting capacities in high schools, and thus actively use compost to maintain school greenery.

Specifically, the project contributed to:

– Reporting illegal landfills and organizing three environmental actions in cooperation with high schools;

– Raising awareness about waste management and reuse;

– Strengthening infrastructure capacities for the disposal of biological waste through composting;

Target group:

– City of Skopje;

– High schools;

– Teachers and students;

Final beneficiaries:

  • Citizens of the City of Skopje;

Key activities

In coordination with the City of Skopje, three eco clean-up actions were organized with students from SUGS “Georgi Dimitrov”, “Lazar Tanev”, and “Kocho Racin”.

Protective equipment and waste collection materials were provided to ensure safe participation.

  • The first action took place on Vodno with students from SUGS “Georgi Dimitrov”.

  • The second action was organized in the City Park, Vardar embankment, and the old car-training ground with students from SUGS “Lazar Tanev”.

  • The third action was held in Gjorce Petrov Municipality, along the Vardar River embankment, with students from SUGS “Kocho Racin”

Five composters were purchased and installed in the schoolyards of SUGS “Georgi Dimitrov”, “Lazar Tanev”, “Kocho Racin”, “Nikola Karev”, and “Vlado Tasevski”.

Following installation, a practical composting training was organized at SUGS “Georgi Dimitrov”, delivered by an expert from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food at UKIM. A short composting brochure was distributed to students and teachers.

The campaign included the installation of five information boards at cleaned locations, distribution of 100 “I LOVE SKOPJE GREEN” T-shirts to students, and a strong social media promotion to raise public awareness on waste reduction and environmental protection.
