CRPM Press on the Vranishkovski case

THE FALL OF THE MACEDONIAN MANCHESTER-THE MUNICIPALITY OF SHTIP
Is Shtip going to be the “Macedonian Manchester”? Will this Macedonian centre of textile production ‘fall’ as the UK city, host of the might ‘Manchester United,’ once did? Today, as in the past. sewing and stitching is a main economic activity in Shtip. In fact, the textile and clothing industry has dominated the economy of Shtip for years, since the founding of the “Makedonka” enterprise in the early 1950’s. The production of clothing is of a great importance for the Macedonian manufacturing sector and the fate of the Shtip’ clothing producers is not only an important question for the economy of the Eastern region of Macedonia but for the country as a whole. The Policy Study is to be published in Novermber.
