On Tuesday, 01/02/2022 we had the great pleasure of having Mr. Geir Håkon Johansen – Deputy Head of Mission of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Belgrade that covers Serbia, N. Macedonia and Montenegro, Mr. Ivan Kuzminovic – Senior Advisor and Marlene Karstensen – Intern as our guests in CRPM’s office. We had pleasant discussion in light of starting the SMART Balkans – Civil Society for shared society in the Western Balkans project which CRPM will be implementing as part of the regional consortium with Centar za promociju civilnog društva from Bosnia and Herzegovina and IDM Albania from Albania.
At the meeting we discussed the current situation with the civil society in the region and how the project through its objectives will empower CSOs to act as drivers of changes in the societies in the WB region.

SMART Balkans – Civil Society for shared society in the Western Balkans is a regional project funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the main goal of the project is to strengthen civil society in six Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia), and it will be implemented by a consortium led by the Centar za promociju civilnog društva including Center for Research and Policy Making and IDM Albania, starting from January this year ending in December 2025.
Topics covered by this project include the fight against organized crime and the prevention of radicalization, including violent extremism; reconciliation, with intercultural dialogue; reforms in support of Euro-Atlantic integration; human rights and gender equality, including gender-based domestic violence; freedom of expression and independent media, etc.
Stay tuned for more information about the project and the grant scheme for civil society organizations in the region in the upcoming period!
