Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG), a new payment system of hospital services, on women revealed that the DRG introduction decreases the average length of stay in hospitals. The analysis further identifies that after hospital discharge, there is a transfer of care from the hospital to the patient’s home (and the primary health care, patronage service as well as home treatment insufficiently replace the care work of family members). The analysis used gender responsive budgeting as a tool to assess the budgetary implications of the reform.
