GBWN Academy as an online platform for gaining GRB knowledge and skills

About the project

GBWN Academy  which is created within the work of the Gender Budget Watchdog Network has aim to strengthen learning capacities of Civil Society Organisatons, practitioners, scholars, civil servants and activists.  CSOs and Individuals interested in the areas of Gender Responsive Budgeting, Gender and Climate Change advocacy are welcomed to join self-paced online training.  Resources are available in different languages including English, Albanian, Macedonian, Romanian, Serbian/Montenegrin/Bosnian/ Croatian.  

The e- academy comprise of the following courses:  

  • Course 1 – Gender-responsive budgeting (GRB);
  • Course 2 – Gender budget analysis;
  • Course 3 – Gender budget end user analysis tools;
  • Course 4 – Gender and Climate change;
  • Course 5 – Gender impact assessment;
  • Course 6 – Advocacy and lobbing on GRB and Climate Change;
  • Course 7 – Gender impact of crises, emergency and resilience funding;
  • Course 8 – Preparation of Gender Responsive Monitoring Reports;
  • Course 9 – Participatory budget community forums.

Gender Responsive Resilience Funding Monitoring Training

Held from May 16 to 19, 2023, in Ulcinj, Montenegro, this training brought together representatives from 27 CSOs across Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Moldova. The program encompassed six modules and two workshops, focusing on:

  • Revising gender concepts and exploring entry points for CSO involvement in budgeting and budget monitoring.
  • Introducing methodologies for monitoring resilience and emergency funding during crises from a gender perspective.
  • Applying these methodologies through case studies in sectors such as agriculture, housing, heating, and energy provision.
  • Emphasizing the importance of sex-disaggregated statistics and gender indicators in CSO watchdog activities.

This training equipped participants with tools to monitor the gender impact of resilience funding during crises, fostering meaningful discussions and networking opportunities among CSOs in the region.

Conducted from November 13 to 15, 2024, in Tirana, Albania, this training aimed to:

  • Raise awareness about gender-responsive budgeting and its role in climate change financing.
  • Examine international commitments on gender and climate, providing insights into regional progress and opportunities for CSO involvement.
  • Provide practical tools for monitoring climate financing from a gender perspective at local, national, and regional levels.
  • Share methods for effective advocacy, project development, and resource allocation to enhance gender equality in climate action.
