As every November, the School of Public Policy “Mother Theresa”, an initiative of the Center for Research and Policy Making (CRPM) supported by the Council of Europe, took part in the 13th World Forum for Democracy held in Strasbourg, France.

This year’s Forum, focused on the topic “Democracy at Risk: How Can We Revive It?”, gathered policymakers, civil society representatives, academics, and young leaders from across the world to explore ways to strengthen democratic institutions and rebuild citizens’ trust.

During the Forum, the School’s delegation visited the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), where they met with Judge Jovan Ilievski. The discussion provided valuable insights into the Court’s work and its crucial role in safeguarding human rights and freedoms, as well as its significance for the citizens of N. Macedonia and across Europe.

The delegation also visited the Permanent Mission of Macedonia to the Council of Europe and participated in the Forum’s workshops, where they joined peers from around the globe in debating the challenges facing democracy today. Topics included the rise of disinformation, civic participation, and the need to rethink democratic governance in times of crisis.

The World Forum for Democracy once again proved to be a dynamic space where reflection meets action — where innovative ideas transform into concrete discussions and potential solutions for democratic renewal. The atmosphere in Strasbourg was filled with energy, creativity, and the spirit of collaboration, reminding participants of the enduring value of democracy and the responsibility to defend it every day.

As tradition goes, the Forum concluded with a proud moment for CRPM and the School of Public Policy “Mother Theresa” — the Diploma Award Ceremony for the 2024/2025 generation. The new cohort of students received their diplomas in recognition of their commitment to public service, critical thinking, and democratic values.

Congratulations to our new generation of young leaders who are ready to shape better policies, strengthen institutions, and promote democracy in North Macedonia and beyond.
