In order to engage citizens to report landfills from Skopje and inform us where to organize eco-actions and clean-ups, we published a call on CRPM’s FB page. In communication and consultation with representatives of the City of Skopje, it was agreed to organize three ecological actions with students from SUGS “Georgi Dimitrov”, SUGS “Lazar Tanev” and SUGS “Kocho Racin”. For this purpose, we organized meetings with the principals of these schools who nominated responsible persons (professors) for the organization of the ecological actions, as well as for further communication regarding the training and installation of the composters.

For the safe cleaning of the locations, personal protective equipment (gloves and disinfectants) and waste collection bags were purchased. The first ecological action iwas organized on Vodno with high school students from SUGS “Georgi Dimitrov”. The second clean-up action was organized in the city park, on the Vardar embankment and at the old car-training ground, with the students from SUGS “Lazar Tanev”. The third eco-action was organized with the students of SUGS “Kocho Racin” in Gjorce Petrov Municipality at the embankment of the Vardar River.

In total, five composters were purchased and installed in the schoolyards of SUGS “Georgi Dimitrov”, SUGS “Lazar Tanev”, SUGS “Kocho Racin”, SUGS “Nikola Karev” and SUGS “Vlado Tasevski”. In coordination with the city, the principals of the mentioned schools were informed about the composters to nominate responsible persons for their further use and maintenance. After the installation of the composters, a training was organized in the schoolyard of SUGS “Georgi Dimitrov”, where expert from Agriculture Institute at UKIM practically explained how composting is being done. In addition, a short brochure was disseminated among the students and teachers.

The campaign included various techniques such as the installation of 5 information boards placed during the cleaning of mini landfills. Also, 100 T-shirts with the message I LOVE SKOPJE GREEN were also disseminated among the students. There was great SM promotional campaign.

In addition to the above described campaign activities, we have introduced one more activity which included purchase of 10 bicycles and bike parking for the students in the primary school Gjorgija Pulevski in Municipality of Aerodrom (the only school in the City of Skopje with velodrome in the school backyard). With this, we additionally influence behavioral change among the youngest community members.
