Grants – First version
The announcement of calls for Local Initiatives, Creative Box, Media Grants, and National Intervention in Serbia and North Macedonia on December 30, 2022, marked the beginning of an exciting opportunity for potential projects.
With a submission deadline set for February 17, 2023, applicants eagerly presented their proposals, which underwent thorough administrative review. Approved applications were then distributed to pairs of evaluators chosen for their expertise. Subsequent meetings with the Selection Committee allowed evaluators to discuss any scoring discrepancies. Additional criteria were established to ensure fairness and consistency in the evaluation process.
SMART Balkans Grants – North Macedonia
National Intervention First Call – We’re delighted to announce that we received a total of 61 applications through GMP, all of which successfully passed the administrative check with flying colors, demonstrating the professionalism and dedication of our applicants. Out of these, 11 organizations submitted full applications, and we’re thrilled to share that each one was granted approval. Ultimately, four organizations have been awarded a National Interventions Grant from the SMART Balkans project. This is a testament to the high quality of projects and the impactful work being done in our community.
Local Initiatives – In line with the Local Initiatives grant, out of 54 applications received through GMP, 25 organizations successfully entered the evaluation process. This highlights the dedication of our applicants. With innovative ideas and the potential for incredible impact, 10 deserving organizations were awarded the grant.
Creative Box
Regarding our Creative Box grants selection process, we are thrilled to announce that during 2023, out of 13 applications received, all sailed through the administrative check smoothly. After thorough evaluation, 2 incredible organizations were chosen to receive grants, totalling 211,354.20 NOK.
Media Grants
In the latest round of Media grants for North Macedonia, 12 applications were processed through GMP with none rejected in the initial administrative check. Evaluations were conducted by two-person pairs, with quality assurance procedures ensuring fairness. Ultimately, two deserving organizations were awarded a total of 363,119.90 NOK, reflecting the commitment to supporting impactful media initiatives in the region.

Exciting recap from SMART Balkans Grants! We’re thrilled to share the latest updates from our grant programs in North Macedonia.
In December 2022, we opened calls for Local Initiatives, Creative Box, and Media Grants, setting the stage for incredible opportunities. With the submission deadline set for February 17, 2023, applicants poured in their innovative ideas, showcasing their dedication and passion for making a difference.
The administrative review process ensured smooth sailing for all approved applications, paving the way for rigorous evaluation by expert pairs of evaluators. Through collaborative efforts and thorough discussions with the Selection Committee, we ensured fairness and consistency in the evaluation process.
In North Macedonia, the response to our National Intervention First Call was phenomenal! A total of 61 applications flooded in, each showcasing the professionalism and dedication of our applicants. All 11 organizations that submitted full applications received approval, with four securing National Interventions Grants, highlighting the exceptional quality of projects in our community.
For Local Initiatives, out of 54 applications received, 25 organizations successfully entered the evaluation process. Ten deserving organizations were awarded grants, a testament to the innovative ideas and potential impact within our region.
Moving on to Creative Box grants, all 13 applications smoothly passed the administrative check. After thorough evaluation, two outstanding organizations were chosen to receive grants, further fuelling creativity and innovation in our community.
In our latest round of Media grants for North Macedonia, all 12 applications sailed through the administrative check, demonstrating the high quality of submissions. With evaluations conducted by dedicated pairs of evaluators, two deserving organizations were awarded grants, totalling an impressive amount.
